Zollanvari International, a Switzerland-based company, has been a market leader and trend definer in handwoven tribal rugs for over 75 years. Their passion has always been for the artistic weavings of the nomadic people of the Zagros Mountain region, where almost all their collections are woven. Today, Zollanvari’s reputation has been further acknowledged as one of the leading lights in the designer rug market, not only winning important international awards, but the admiration and recognition of the entire design community. Reza Zollanvari, the company’s head, is the creative director of Zollanvari Studio who over the past decade has produced over 40 designer collections – collections that are either entirely original creations or inspired by Western artistic movements or textile art from all weaving cultures. In addition, Zollanvari have been working with established designers and design studios to create unique and innovative rug art – always pushing design and production boundaries to stay ahead of the rug crowd. The drive for using the best of traditional techniques and materials to produce rugs in tune with the contemporary market began with Reza’s father Gholamreza Zollanvari back in 1947. Gholamreza’s indefatigable determination revolutionised Persian domestic weavings such as gabbehs and introduced them to an eager Western market. A lifetime of experience in developing traditional rug making and keeping up to date with contemporary market trends and needs, has meant that Zollanvari has stayed relevant and true to the art of rug making over decades – an achievement that takes great courage and ingenuity.
